An EOFY website review covers four areas: content currency, schema accuracy, technical health, and hosting. In 2026, those checks come with added context relevant to recent changes.

With these changes, understanding the true impact on your website requires more context than in previous years.

June is when most boards get around to asking what the website is doing. The answer is more complicated than usual this year.

### What changed with Google in May 2026?

AI Mode became the default for about one billion Google users on 20 May 2026. A core algorithm update began on 21 May and will finish in early June, targeting content quality and relevance.

Websites with expert-authored content and accurate, structured data are holding rankings and, in some cases, gaining ground. Websites with thin copy are losing visibility.

Both changes make it harder to interpret traffic in May and June. If traffic drops even when rankings hold, or pages get fewer clicks, it may be due to the new AI-generated summary above search results. Most users now get answers without clicking any website.

Read June numbers against that context before concluding something is broken.

### What does the May update reward?

Expert-authored content, clear structure, and accurate schema. Google published guidance in May (developers.google.com/search/docs/fundamentals/ai-optimisation-guide) confirming that the signals driving AI answer citations are the same as those that have always driven strong rankings.

A school with enrolment pages by the admissions coordinator does better than one using templates. An [Not For Profit](https://remedystudio.com.au/sectors/not-for-profit-web-design) whose programme descriptions explain what you do and who you serve appears in AI answers. A [Healthcare](https://remedystudio.com.au/sectors/healthcare) practice whose pages reflect true clinical knowledge holds up during quality updates.

Remedy clients are already positioned for this: expert-authored, accurately described, structurally sound websites.

### What does an EOFY website review cover?

None of the following requires a rebuild. These are maintenance checks: the kind that prevent quiet problems from compounding.

### **Content currency**

When were your key pages last updated? Enrolment information, fees, programme descriptions, service pages. Stale content erodes trust and affects how search systems assess a website’s reliability. A pass over the pages that matter most, checking what is no longer accurate, is usually enough.

### **Schema accuracy**

If the website has been live for a few years, check whether the structured data still accurately describes the organisation. The Organisation entity carries SameAs links to social profiles and LocalBusiness details. These are the trust signals AI-enabled search systems use to verify claims. If they were configured at launch and never revisited, they may be out of date.

For [Schools & Education](https://remedystudio.com.au/sectors/school-web-design), check the EducationalOrganisation schema. For NFPs, check NGO markup.

### **Technical health**

Are forms working? Are links broken? Is page speed within a reasonable range? These are maintenance checks, not an optimisation sprint. Boards sometimes ask when a check was last done. It is worth having an answer.

### **Hosting and security**

When does the SSL certificate renew? Has the hosting provider flagged anything in the last 12 months? These are the things that do not matter until they suddenly do.

### What should you skip in this year's review?

Skip spending decisions based on one quarter of unusual analytics. The algorithm update completes in early June. Traffic data from May and June is not a reliable baseline for rebuild decisions. Wait for a longer trend before drawing conclusions.

Skip any vendor offering an AI visibility package or GEO strategy as a new service. Google has published guidance confirming the underlying work is unchanged.

And skip a content refresh that amounts to rewriting every page with no clear diagnosis. The more useful question first: which pages are reaching the people they are meant to reach, and which are not?

### Heading into FY27

The website's job for FY27 is unchanged. Content current. Technical foundations sound. The organisation is described accurately enough that the platforms people use to find you can reliably point to you.

### Frequently asked questions about EOFY website reviews

### **Why does my traffic look odd in May and June 2026?**

Google's AI Mode became the default experience for around one billion users on 20 May, and a core algorithm update began rolling out the following day. Both changes affect how traffic is distributed and reported. May and June data are not a reliable baseline. Wait for July numbers before drawing conclusions about website performance.

### **Does my website need a full rebuild after the May update?**

Not at all. The May update rewards expert-authored content, accurate schema, and sound technical foundations. If your website was built well and is maintained, those foundations are already in place. A targeted review is the right starting point.

### **What schema should I check during an EOFY website review?**

Start with the Organisation entity: SameAs links to social profiles, LocalBusiness details, and contact information. If these were set up at launch and never updated, they may no longer accurately reflect the organisation. For schools, check the EducationalOrganisation schema. For NFPs, check NGO markup.

### **Do I need to add FAQ schema to my website?**

No. Google fully deprecated FAQPage rich results on 7 May 2026. There is no SERP reward for adding FAQ schema to your website. Existing schema can remain in place, but adding it as a new optimisation is not warranted.
